Australia's political history started under The Tree of Knowledge, but that tree has since become extinct. Bob Hawke planted a tree with the proceeds of sale of the first tranche of Telstra shares. This planting was to save the Murry Valley, but the tree has died and the Murray Valley is still a mess. John Howard showed George W Bush the benefits of tree-planting, and it turned out to be the best laugh George W had while in office. Now Tony Abbott has turned his great mind to the benefits of tree-planting, but he is years behind, tree-planting is out of fashion now. Australia is crying out for a new Tree of Knowledge, but the modern generation of Australian leaders can't get one to grow.
